Dance, music & fun at New England Folk Festival

The Morris Dancers were in full swing and so were hundreds of others in the dance halls at the 64th New England Folk Festival this past weekend. Of course, there was plenty of music to go along with the dancing, and lots of other musical performances, as well.

Be sure to check out the pages of The Patriot Ledger’s Entertainment section on Monday (April 28, 2008) for a bunch of photos.

The festival transformed Mansfield’s high school and middle school. Parking was a challenge; they bused folks in from remote lots. Men were in kilts, barefoot dancers wandered the halls, spontaneous jams cropped up and musicians mingled with the public.

The folk arts were interspersed with the people who will pass down the traditions. Judging by the thousands who attended, the festival also showed how truly entrenched this music is. People came from all over the country to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and enjoy all kinds of ethnic music, stories, crafts, colorful dancers and so much more.
