Les Sampou & Taylor Armerding perform at house concert

It was potluck, a touch of wine and sweet, sweet music, when Les Sampou and Taylor Armerding sang and played music together at a Franklin house concert on March 2, 2008.

Sampou, from Norwell, often plays with the rock group Tin Angels. But her style was a mix of traditional, old-timey, folk and raucous blues, with delicious mandolin tremolos and leads from Armerding, who has performed most recently with the Bluegrass Gospel Project. Armerding was lead man for years in the New England-based, progressive bluegrass band Northern Lights. Nowadays, he is freelancing his work, playing with the Massachusetts-based band Southern Rail and folk singer Jonathan Edwards.

Sampou revelled in the intimate living-room setting of Franklin House Concerts (http://franklinhouseconcerts.org), run for the past 10 years from the home of folk-music fan, Barry Kasindorf. And Armerding’s playing and delicate harmonies often brought a smile to her face mid-song as she played old favorites from her four CDs and new songs destined for an upcoming release.
